Community Involvement

Harlan Satrom prides himself not only on his business accomplishments, but also his involvement in the community of Decorah, Iowa. He was drawn to Decorah to attend Luther College and become a Norse, and graduated in 1982 with a B.A. in Accounting. While college is what brought him to this town, it was he and Sonja’s love for the town that made them stay!

For the past 40 years, Harlan has taken on many volunteer opportunities and participated in a multitude of committees. From 2005-2013 he spent many hours volunteering to help plan and build the Trout Run Trail, which has become a recreational destination for bikers from many parts of the country. While on the trail you may see Harlan, and you can expect a friendly wave and smile even going up the switchbacks, which are a distinctive trait on the trail.

He is currently a member of the Rotary Club of Decorah where he has shared his knowledge of wealth management and has been active in presenting the ideas of a community wellness center. Harlan is the co-chair of the Wellness and Recreation planning committee which is working to bring a Wellness/Recreation center to Winneshiek County as a tool to improve the quality of life here in Northeast Iowa.

Other past achievements include:

  • Past board member and president of the Winneshiek County Community Foundation

  • Past President of local NAIFA (National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisory) in 2001

  • Great places volunteer in 2009

  • Recipient of Luther College Distinguished Service Award 2012

While Harlan is continuing to grow his business, his time dedicated to the community is also growing. He is proud to call Decorah home and looks forward to its future. Mange Tak!
